Day 3 schoology reflection

Post your reflection on your blog.
What worked/didn't work during your attempt to create part of a course on Schoology?
Did you have to use outside platforms/apps?
Did you look at the discussions of Schoology affordances written by the other groups?
How would you teach Schoology use to your colleagues?

Schoology - is not so understandable as it seemed yesterday.
Our  task was to create a module using Schoology based on the following requirements

7. Have students create a 30-second “elevator pitch.” –what I am looking for in terms of a job and why you should hire me. Give them the language they will need for the pitch.

8. Have students record the pitch and upload for peer review.

It was really easy for our group
  • to create the special folder for the lesson
  • to fill this empty folder with tests, links BUT I couldn't do it from my computer (good news it was only with my computer)
  • before we have already found how to divide members into groups
  • and even the function of the peer editing we also found

Day 2 reflection

Tuesday, the 9th of June.
Day 2.

We were presenting about schoolology.com. Watch our presentation here >>>>
The difficulty was -TIME LIMIT.
Honestly, I have never spoken only for one minute.
Look at this cruel woman
As Benjamin Franklin said: " If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter".
So, the same story  is with me. But time limit is a great experience. Now, I know how to teach my secondary school students to be short during their oral presentations. Showing cards is something new for me.
We had 5 groups and I saw that all participants were worring about time management. Nevertheless, our group was one of the best (I guess), maybe because we've created Google slides with lots of screen shots and simple explanations, which we wrote yesterday in shared Google doc.
To my wonder, not so many participants have known Google docs before. Also one of the reason of our succusesful presentation was a choice of the platform. It is true - schoolology.com is the best among all tested platforms.

Second point of my reflection today is PLANNING of the future course.
Using Brain storming activity Debby made us to predict what we are going to do during the year in project.
Oh, yes. With my brain I understand - it is really important. But in practice...I always don't have time for planning, creating some tables, etc. During summer holidays I am preparing some planning for the first semester, but in the second... mostly I am only promising to myself to finish it.
I have to admitt - it is my really the biggest weak spot. And, this is one of the things which I would change in my course for disabled people. (Debby was asking me about it).

As a rezult of brain storming we had a list of different skills, which students have to get during project. Debby divided us into groups and were EXPLORING the platform for the distance learning and teaching schoolology.com.
I was lucky, because we have already used it yesterday.

Our task was to explore and find the solution how to develop different skills, which we were planning before.
Collaborative work at the site and in Google doc was not very productive. We couldn't find how to make groups during video-conferences. We tried different tools but no results. Instead finding solution which were given to our group we discoverd more and more other functions of schoolology.com
I felt myself as a treasure hunter or detective.
Alla is really engaged

Try to explain again

Day 1

Day 1.

HERE IS MY REFLECTION ON THE FIRST DAY

Trainings are very important for my professional growing. I believe, I am a long-life- learner, so it is really essensial for me. So, training with Debby Lee is a great opportunity for me to develop.
5-days training about on-line teaching supported by the American Embassy.
I like feeling of beeing the students, so try to be a good student and do all task in time.

To start with, I'd like to show some pictures - TALKING PICTURES were made with http://www.fotobabble.com

One of my own aim was to observe the way of conducting workshop in the computer class. From the very beginning Debby  explained us that she prefers friendly un-official style of comunication. And it really works. It helps to engage everybody. Generally speaking, during the first part of the training  Debby were giving  us some really useful tips how to moderate on-line discussion.

First of all, INTRODUCTION. It was a nice hook to start our introduction before starting the training. For sure, we are training to teach on-line - we have to know different tricks to motivate participants.   As a rezult we have already known each other and BINGO introduction game was the perfect implementation of this knowledge. (It also showed that Debby was carefully read all our 50 posts).
Another activity for introduction was TRUE-FALSE game. It makes us to stand up, hang around, find partners and tell them 2 correct sentences and 1 wrong sentence about us. Partner had to guess where was False.
I believe it is a great game for self-introduction. It can be also used at my school practice for any level. Students can write sentences in different grammar form and ask where is Past Simple, for example. Writing and reading,  speaking and listening - all skills are practicing at the same time.

Secondly, after some teoretical part (which was quite useful, but boring a little - sorry. ) we started to speak about PRACTICAL acpect . We named different applications, which people have known or used in their practice.
You can look at the table with them in this Google Doc >>>>>>>

The last, but not the least part was EXPLORATION of new platforms for on-line courses.
nicenet+ - I know it from my E-teacher course at Oregon University

wiggio - for group work
canvas - we use it with Debby right now
https://www.edmodo.com/ - I use it with my disabled students
https://www.schoology.com/home - Absolutely new for me, that's why I decided to play with it.

We were working in a group of five - learning how to work at schoolology platform. We created the virtual class, tried how to add new memebers, create materials, grade, upload and download resourses, etc.
It was superb! We were working even after the finishing of the first day training.
Probably, I will use it with my 8th graders at school next school year!!!
